I have windows xp home and an amd sempron 2800+ processor. I have had
trouble for a month now connecting to adsl broadband after a power failure.
Tech support for PC are blaming modem/isp, and vise-versa. I found a folder
titled hotline client on my pc and when i opened it there was a list stating
my system devices and drivers. some of which had not-ok next to the driver
but the staus was ok, i have included the list to see if anyone can say if
these are whats causing my adsl to stop working when i plug in the mouse
(PS/2). Have bought a usb mouse and managed to get connected for a while,
but after disconnecting it failed to connect again and i had the same
problems as before.

System CMOS/realtime clock - not ok
System board - not ok
motherboard resources - not ok
motherboard resources - not ok
numeric data processor - not ok
acpi power button - not ok
isapnp read data port - not ok
printer port logical interface - not ok
VIA standard host bridge - not ok.

if anyone knows how i can correct these or a website where i can get
drivers, would be most appreciated.

Hi,

Looks like the main problem is the mobo.
Suggest you to change the mobo battery, clear the CMOS and flash the latest
BIOS.
If you can successfully flash the BIOS, load the default setup then save and
exit BIOS. Let windows load and reinstall the latest VIA chipset drivers.

If you still can't solve the problems, check the mobo by a qualified
technician.
Hope it helps.

Thank you for replying, is it easy to change the battery, can i do it myself
or should i get a professional to do it. Also how do i flash the bios and
clear the CMOS. I think i know how to get in to these and load the optimized
defaults. Will check with windows for latest VIA chipset drivers.

Changing the battery is one thing. Turn off the computer and push aside the
clip, then gently pry out the battery (do not use metal tools), then replace
it with the same type of battery.
Flashing the BIOS is dangerous and, if done wrong, will render the computer
unbootable.
Be certain you know what you are doing.

Hi,

Flash the mobo BIOS need to have some PC skills and you must really
understand how to do it as an improper update of BIOS may turn your PC to a
dead stone and the repair charges may be expensive.
Pls refer to the mobo user manual if it is a home made PC or refer to the
owner manual for a brand name PC.

BTW, You should obtain the latest VIA drivers from viaarena.com or from the
mobo manufacturer's website but not from windows.
Link: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&Type=1

If you need more help, pls post back with more info of your PC, the brand
and model of the mobo/PC brand name and model, etc.

Hi, i dont have a user manual, thats shows specifics, just the basics. PC was
bought in December 2005, and is an IQon. AMD sempron 2800+ processor 2.00Ghz,
244MB of RAM

Hi,

I think you bought it from Dec 2004 and should be within the warranty period.
Pls check to clarify whether the problems caused by a power failure is
included in the warranty. If yes, call them for a repair.

I have searched the IQon website and could not find any useful helps from
their support centre or download centre. Their download centre don't have
BIOS for update and the user manual is very basic. It even don't mention how
to boot into BIOS.

You may download the belarc advisor from belarc.com or Everest home edition
from lavalys.com http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?lang=en
They are all freeware and provide detail info of your PC.

Pls post back the detail info of your PC to NG for analysis and helps.

Sorry yes December 2004.

Motherboard name - Gigabyte GA-7VM333M-RZ
Motherboard Chipset - VIA VT8378(A) Unichrome KM400(A)
BIOS type - Award Modular (10/6/04)

When i clicked shipset, a report came up saying "AGP aperture size is more
than half the memory size, This may cause performance penalty"
Curent AGP is lower than maxium supported. This may cause performance
penalty.

BIOS Field Value
Award BIOS Message 7VM333M-RZ F5b IQ

It also says No Battery. If you need any more, let me know, thank you so
much for your help so far.
Jane.

Hi,

I have search gigabyte website and found that the 7VM400AM-RZ may be
the type of mobo that is most likely the same as your mobo.
They use the same VIA chipset KM400A but it support FSB400 but your
mobo only support upto FSB333.
However, you can download this user manual for your own reference.
Link:
http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/Manual/Manual_7VM400AM-RZ.htm

You may also use the auto update from their download centre to update the
drivers
Link:
http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Support/DownloadCenter/DownloadCenter_1.htm

Go to gigabyte website to have a try and pls post back your findings.

You can change the AGP aperture size in BIOS.
You can refer this to the downloaded user manual.
However, I would like to suggest you to add another 256MB of ram.
Make sure to use the same type and spec as unmatched ram stick would cause
troubles.

Note: Pls refer to the downloaded user manual to clear the CMOS and load the
load default setup. Don't update the BIOS at this time.

Hi, the gigabyte link seems to be down.

Hi, when i start the PC i press del to enter setup. On this is the list of
CMOS and BIOS etc, when i go into the BIOS i can press the Q-Flash, when i do
this i have the choice to reset, do i want to do this?. I think i also have
that choice in CMOS, i can press esc, and it asks if i want to reset, but im
not sure if this is what i want to do, and i dont want to mess it up. If i
do reset, does it do it automatically or do i have to enter things manually.

Thanks Jane

Hi,

Have you downloaded the 7VM400AM-RZ user manual from this link:
http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/Manual/Manual_7VM400AM-RZ.htm

If yes, go to page19/40 for item 16) CLR _CMOS (Clear CMOS)
If you don't have the shunter to short clear CMOS, remove the battery for 30
seconds would have the same effect to clear CMOS.

Go to page 21/40 and read thoroughly for Chapter 2 BIOS Setup.
Don't press F8 to enter Q-Flash utility as you are NOT going to update the
BIOS.
(Care: the latest BIOS of this mobo model may NOT be suitable for your mobo.
I think Gigabyte made the mobo specially for IQon so you could not find this
mobo from Gigabyte website. The chipset for northbridge is the same but the
chipset for southbridge is different)
I suggest you to press F7 to load the optimized default and then adjust the
CMOS
to suit your needs.

I suggest you to follow the steps:

1. Unplug the PC from the main AC power supply.

2. Open the chassis, touch both hands to the metal frame to discharge any
static charges.
Care: Must not touch any chips by bare hands as the static charges may
kill the chips.

3. Check carefully with the help of a magnifying glass on the surface of the
mobo.
Look for any sign of a burned component, color changed marks, broken
circuitry etc.
This is to ensure the components/circuitry of the mobo is not damaged by
the power failure
and surge current. Any abnormal sign/burned mark/discoloring indicates
that there is a
permanent damage to the mobo. Go to step 4 if you are happy with your
findings.

4. Clear the CMOS - remove the battery and wait at least 30 seconds and then
insert the battery.

5. Ensure all the internal devices are firmly seated and connected by cables
(if any),
e.g. the ram sticks, harddisks, optical drives, lan/ modem card, sound
card, vedio card, etc.

6. Close the chassis and reconnect the AC power.

7. Boot into BIOS and press F7 key to load the Load Optimized Default

8. Adjust the system time clock to currrent time/year

9. Adjust the BIOS to suit your needs, e.g. change the boot sequence,
overclock the CPU, etc.
( press Ctrl+F1 keys to enter Advanced Settings)

10. Save and exit BIOS setup.

Let windows to load and re-install all the latest XP compatible
chipset/audio/vedio drivers.
(You can get those drivers from IQon website)
if the same problems persists, there may be problems on the mobo itself and
need to be repaired/replaced.

Pls post back to NG

Peter
