Can anyone please tell me how to configure my WiFi connection so it
will not go offline so easily.
James
You're not really giving us much to go on.
Since there are different versions of wi-Fi networking running on
different frequencies, which type (a,b,g or n) would be relevant. Those
types operate in a couple of different frequency bands, some of which
share frequencies with other cordless/wireless equipment like baby
monitors, personal radio service two way radios and SOME cordless phones
(look for MHz markings on the phone or in the user manual). The
operation of those devices could make the frequency so busy the Wi-Fi
network has trouble getting an opportunity to communicate.
Distance between the computer and wireless router could also be a
factor, along with things like file cabinets, displays (computer and/or
TV), appliances (refrigerators, washing machines etc), telephones,
masonry walls, siding and vapor barriers in/on walls, and the computer's
cabinet along the radio signal's transmission path. An antenna that
mounts directly on the back of a tower case may not be the best option
IF the router is a few rooms away and in front of the computer. In some
situations a user MIGHT benefit from moving the antenna (at computer or
router end) to a higher shelf and/or a few feet to the side in order to
achieve a less obstructed signal path or put some distance between the
antenna and some electrical or electronic device that generates
interference.
