I have been unable to run any programs using my CD Rom drive. Every time I
place a CD in, nothing happens...no error messages, nothing! I need to
install a program, but I can't. This is really getting frustrating!! Please
Help!!!!!!

Does the CD run in another computer? Can you browse the CD in Windows
Explorer?

Just putting it in and not doing anything else lets the setting at Control
Panel/AutoPlay decide what to do with those types of files. If you open the
drive in Explorer, it should show you the files on disk. If you are not
seeing any files, there is something wrong with the drive.

Hi,

First see if the drive is detected ok. Open Windows Explorer and see if the
drive is listed, and if so double click it to see if the disk starts. If it
does, then all you may need to do is check autoplay settings in the control
panel.

If the drive is not listed, you'll need to check device manager to see if
there is an error loading it or the controller cable it is attached to. If
it's listed but won't play, the drive may be damaged and in need of
replacement. It's also possible that there is a buildup of dust and debris
on the drive lens, in which case a lens cleaner disk may resolve the issue.
These are available at most stores that sell CD/DVD media and are fairly
cheap.

Have you ruled out a hardware problem?

Since it works under Windows XP and not Vista, I suspect that it's related
to
either the firmware or the device driver. I recommend visiting the vendor's
website and searching for both a firmware and driver update under the
site's support section.
