I've had XP on my computer for over 2 years now and somehow it got
uninstalled off of my computer. I don't have my package or disk that I
used to install the software. Is there anyway that it can be retrieved
off the hard disk drive. If someone knows please let me know. I have a
research paper that is due in a week and I am in desperate need...
Thank You.

I'm not sure what happened, but Windows simply can't get "uninstalled". Try
providing more information, such as what happens when you boot up your
computer, etc etc etc. The more relevant background detail, the better.

You need to have a copy of all your installation media - that's really
critical in general - and you also need to be making proper backups of all
your data regularly, because things like this can and do happen!

You may need to get bootable rescue media / undelete software for your data
but let's see what's actually going on.

In addition to Lanwrench's suggestion, if you don't have the software,
and since it seems your a student; you might get the operating system
software, and Office, from your school under the academic license for a
reasonable price.

a) how does XP get "uninstalled"? and b) if you don't have all your
original XP and app install CDs, best head to your closest computer
store and buy them, c) you need more help than just an overdue
research paper! how'd you get yourself in this fix? now, d) try
booting in Safe Mode and see if you can roll your system back to
the latest System Restore Point you have. with luck, that'll take
care of the problem.

Lanrench, have you ever noticed a strange phenomenon where people
suddenly decide they need to put their install media in a safe
place where they can locate it in a hurry and create a workable
backup regiment right AFTER there's some sort of disaster? Must be
a fairly common thing as NONE of my friends do ANY sort of backup,
they just trust to God to save them, I guess.
