down load the "GetDataBack" version for the disk format you are using.
This is a full function trial that will find the overwritten file if the
replacement was put in a different spot on the drive (windows is sloppy, it
rarely puts things back where it found them) and display it for you. It will
even let you view the contents of the file, but not save it back to your HD.
So, all you have to do is select and copy the text and paste it back into
your word processing app. If you want to be honest you can buy a license for
about $70.
Believe me this program is worth it.
How does it work? well it reads all of the binary code on the drive and
writes it to a temp file, then it recompiles it as individual formatted
files. On something small like a flash drive it shouldn't take to long. On a
large HD that has gone bad, 2-3 days.
