Did your hard drive come with instructions on how to set it up? Most all
retail drives do. RTFM and you'll discover that the drive needs to be
partitioned and formatted before Windows can use it.

Thomas

Right click on the 'My Computer' icon and select 'Manage' from the drop down
menu..

You should now see the 'Computer Management' window..

Under the sub heading 'storage', select Disk Management..

OK.. you should see Disk 0, your primary boot drive.. there should also be
an entry for Disk 1.. place your mouse over the grey box that tells you it
is Disk 1.. the one above should read 'basic., report the size and status
shows as 'online'..

With the mouse pointer over the corresponding box for Disk 1, right click
and select the option to 'initialize'..

After this process has finished, you will be able to partition and format
the new drive, and the drive will be given a letter, and status will report
'online'

When you have finished the task, come to the front of the class to tell me
how it all worked out.. :-)

hey mate. the problems solved now thanks to Mike Hall, but thanks for
replying to my thread.

Your welcome.. you get an A- for that as you did have to get some help.. it
would have been an A had you already been to Disk management but not been
able to find the function to initialize.. and an A+ had you not asked for
any help at all..

You do have the right to appeal against the decision, pending the submission
of reasonable evidence.. :-)
