I've detected 2 viruses in my computer. And, although I'm ok with computers
I'm having a hell of a time getting rid of 'em. Here's the problem....they
are located inside a .CAB file and are archives. I can easily view the
infected files but cannot remove them?? Most virus removal software does
not support removal from an archive while using windows ME...I know I know
....get rid of ME...But that's not an option right now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thx all

Unpack it, remove the virus and pack it again, or delete the whole package.

I've tried that but because they are .CAB files in the "restore" directory I
am not able to delete anything. I've tried to extract with winzip but that
doesn't work either. Is there another way to "unpack" the .CAB file?
Thx

If you'd said they were in system restore the first time you'd have
gotten a more sensible answer. Turn off system restore, reboot,
re-enable it. Or flush all restore points (not sure how you do that in
ME). Actually they should not be causing any problem where they are, so
you could just wait for them to fall off the restore queue.

GSv that did the trick...After disable...re-boot...enable there is only one
cab file left and the infected ones are gone. Thx a lot!! Now I know where
to come for virus help.

Thx again guys and have a good day

A little off topic but...

Everytime someone says "i know i know i should get rid of windows me"
i get annoyed because it is a stupid thing to say. Ok so Windows ME
isnt the best OS in the world (infact it is probably the worst!)
however I know a lot of people who have had no problems with Windows
ME at all. If it works for you stick with it. My mother has Windows ME
on her PC and it works great. I don't think I have ever seen it crash
or had her moan about it crashing.

Just needed to get that out of my system :)

Thanks MRP.......I have used WinME for 3 years now and have absolutely no
complaints......in fact, I help out where I can on the MS news groups for
that O/S. It has its quirks, I suppose. But System Restore is worth its
weight in gold!!

After using Win95, there is absolutely no justification for people saying
that WinME is no good!! I have heard the same thing about XP, which I have
had sitting here for a year, btw......but not sure I want to put it on
unless I dual boot. That should tell you how much I like WinME.

OK.....my mini rant is over as well.......except for one thing. EVERY darn
person who told me that ME was no good had NEVER used it.......they had just
'heard' it was no good. Dolts!!

Cheers......Heather (and Mothers know best, grin)

I think most people who say something is really bad, etc. have never
used it. Everything has good points and bad points. Glad you are happy
with Windows ME :)
