VIA chipset? 4in1's done? fastwrites are no big deal, leave it off.

He says he has an A7N8X-Deluxe. There are no Via components on that
board.

Regardless, I agree, fastwrites and AGP8X are no big deal--if they don't
work, screw 'em.

I have an ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe
512 meg pc2700
ATI 9700 pro

I am unable to set it to 8x AGP and fast write

I have the newest CAT 3.9
the latest BIOS

so what am I missing

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

SmartGart has determined that fastwrites may cause instabliity in your
system. I've tried arguing with SmartGart before; 99 percent of the
time it is absolutely correct.

yes ok on the smartgart but what about the 8x agp???

Well...I have a VIA motherboard, so I don't know if this will be
applicable or not. However, I went without 4x for two years, because I
didn't know that AGP "drive" in the bios had to be on "auto" in order
for 4X to work in my particular application. Needless to say, you'll
want to make sure 8x is enabled in the bios as well. Beyond that, you
might get better answers in an Asus Usenet forum.

Have you tried just sliding it up to 8X in SmartGart and rebooting? Or
does it keep reverting?

Thanks to all who replied
