www.bootdisk.com

Grab a boot disk from the above URL.......

Re-boot your computer with the boot disk, and at the prompt, type: format c:
(where c is the drive you wish to format)

I've tried bootdisk.com. What I need is a program that can re-format a
drive that has windows ME on it so I can install windows 98 instead on
it. I have a bootdisk of windows 98, but, when I try to reformat the
drive with it, it tells me it's the wrong version. I need something
that will format the drive, no matter what version of windows I'm
running. Any suggestions?
TIA

Most drive manufacturers have low level format routines available on
their websites, generally including test software.

Did you reboot from the floppy? The boot disk floppy?

If you boot from ME and then stick the boot floppy in you will get
that error.

If you boot from your Win98 in A: you'll be able to format C:

I really don't want to do a low-level format on my hard drive. I have
a program for that. I just need something that will erase windows ME
and allow me to install windows 98. Any further help will be
appreciated.
