where can i locate a freeware program that tells me about all the
hardware -motherboard details and so on in my computer?
perhaps SiSoftSandra - OK it is Lightware - don't kill me ...

I use Belarc, (which is of course free) the only stipulation is that you
must be online with the browser open for this to work. When I use it I just
go to their site, and download the program, when it downloads it also reads
your info. You have to print it off as it will not save. The web site is:

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

I hope this helps.

Dave.

Um, actually you don't have to be on-line. It is a local file in
the sub-directory of \belarc\advisor\system\tmp
You can copy, and re-name it to save the local html file.

I use Belarc as well.

You do not have to be online to use it. I dragged the shortcut that the
program places on the desktop to my Quick Launch tray and run it from
there. It also stores the last report in the Belarc Folder. Mine is
found at:

C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp\(Mark warner).html

You shouldn't have to, have they stopped allowing you to download the
program to use locally??? Doesn't look like it...otherwise what about
this then? http://www.belarc.com/Programs/advisor.exe

In addition to Belarc, aida32, and Sandra, I think Computer Profiler
in Karen's PowerTools provides much of the system info you seek
(freeware(?) for personal use). Fresh Diagnose probably would
suffice but I have never used it (registerware for "personal/private
use" plus weekly email).

Belarc is probably easiest with Karen's close behind. aida32 is _not_
hard to use and provides a wealth of information even across networks.
Hard to believe aida32 is free for personal use and registerware for
commercial use! Depending upon your purpose, try looking through
benchmarkhq.ru for many more possibilities to evaluate.

N.B., some information is dated (e.g., Bonzai System Viewer is now
shareware).

Description from Karen's Computer Profiler (Download) page

about your CPU, memory, operating system, even your computer's power
source, are all displayed. You can also copy the information to the
Windows clipboard, and paste it into a document for permanent
storage."

BillR you do good work; that was the most comprehensive answer yet. Thanks.

Thanks. BTW, I poked around for a minute earlier today in the archive
Lord Possum mentioned on Sept 2nd. I noticed several program
descriptions that discussed low level cpu information. The category
page below is in German, but all the descriptions I glanced at were in
English. (As a culturally deprived monolingualist, "Thank goodness.")
Son of Spy noted that the downloads are FTP links.
