Works is a suite of applications, one of which is a spreadsheet application.
Excel is a stand-alone spreadsheet application or can be part of the MS Office
suite.
Works = Ford Escort
Excel = Lincoln Navigator
They both get you from A to B but how fast and how comfortably is another
matter.
