Help!! I've got serious problems here! I was having problems with my PC
(couldn't connect to other PC on network; couldn't open items in Control
Panel or certain shortcuts). Then I noticed a file, msupdate.exe, in my
Startup folder. Tried to delete it, but was told it was in use. So I
cancelled the process using Task Manager and then deleted the file from
Startup. Then things got weird.
Now, whenever I try to use a shortcut from a toolbar or Control Panel, I get
the message, "Can't find file rundll32.dll" (it's there and with correct
date/time stamp). If I try to run a program directly by double-clicking its
EXE, I get the Open With dialog box. About half of my programs are missing
from the Open With list (interestingly, most of my Office 97 programs are
there, but all of the Office 2000 programs are not there). If I select a
program from the list, it will open; if I select a program not in the list
(using Browse), it won't open.
Needless to say, I'm screwed here. All of these problems happened when I
deleted the msupdate.exe file. There must be some way to restore my system
to how it was before I was infected with that file. Any ideas would be
*greatly* appreciated. (I'm using Win XP Home SP2.)
Thanks!
