I accidentally deleted a network folder from a client pc
and now can't restore it. (i.e.
\\servername\important_folder) I logged onto the server
to search for it, but can't find it there either. Is
there any way to restore this folder?

(sorry if this is the wrong group - I had trouble loading
the others)

If you don't have a backup of the folder, the only way I
can think of getting the data back is to purchase a good
utility. I use winternals' Admin Pak. This is
unfortunatly a pricy solution if you don't already have
the software in your toolbox. There are a number of
utilities you can purchase and download which should aid
you in restoring the lost data.

You may want to keep people from writing to the drive,
untill you've restored the lost folder. Writing to the
drive will greatly reduce your ability to restore the
lost data.

Unfortunately, not the answer I was hoping for. As an
aside, what's the best way to prevent this in the future?
I'm the administrator (small network) and the only user of
this folder. I what restrictions can I place on myself,
without losing complete control?

You can deny delete privileges on a NTFS partition, this comes with its own
headaches. That does not resolve the bigger problem, why you can not restore
the folder from a backup. If you are not doing backups then you need to ask
yourself one question, what do I do when the hard disk crashes or a virus
wipes out everything.
