Only one form can be active. It is returned by the ActiveMdiChild property.
To close all children, have a look at the MdiChildren property.

There can be only a single active child form in the parent. Untested
(place inside the MDI container form):

For Each f In Me.MdiChildren()
f.Close()
Next f
///

Me.ActiveMdiChild.Close()
