I have a XP SP2 PC in the office with GPO's applied. If I login as a
standard user and browse to ww.bbc.co.uk, the page comes up with no
problems. I then select 'sport', the browser eventually dies and
doesn't respond any more. Similarly, if I try to browse to
www.google.com, I have the same problem, but I can browse to
www.google.co.uk without any problems.

The problem appears to be a re-direction issue, as the sites that I
appear to have problems with are all re-directed else where.

If I login as a 'Power User' or 'Admin' I can browse all the sites that
I previously had problems with. Everything appears to point to a
permissions issues within the GPO, but I can't seem to identify where
it is? Can someone please help.

Thanks.

A long time ago in W2Ksp3 a poster reported this problem
and the workaround was to stop the dnscache service.
I never did find out if there was a more satisfactory resolution.

BTW this isn't really a question about IE and you
could probably get better help from a newsgroup
which specializes in networking for your OS.

Here is a troubleshooter which can lead you to such a newsgroup
if you need more help

Hi Robert,
Thanks for your comments, but you'll be pleased to know that I
identified the problem. Since we use a blue coat proxy server, a proxy
pac script is used to determine the Internet route taken by our users.
The problem was within our GPO settings and in particular the

'ProxySettingsPerUser' registry setting had to be set to 1 instead of 0

GPO settings..
Local Computer Policy/Computer Configuration/Administrative
Template/Windows Components/Internet Explorer
Make proxy settings per-machine(rather than per user) - Should be set
to per user, therefore diabled..

Please see link..

I was going mad over this one, but thanks again for your response.
Problem solved.
