I bought a new dell pc last month, 3.5ghz p4, 2 gigs of ram, nvidia 6800,
230gig harddrive using xp home.

Everything was fine for the first 2 weeks but over the last 2 weeks, my pc
has started to become extraordinarily slow. Whenever I right-click a file on
the desktop the computer stops responding and I'm usualyy confronted with
messages like 'drwatson postmortem debbuger has encountered an error' or '
windows explorer must close'. If I try to play an album in My Music and press
the play all button Media player stops responding before it even starts to
play a song. I have to close or restart the pc through task manager when this
occurs.

I've run so many virus checks and spy ware checks but nothing was found.
Please help, my pc is causing me to go insane.

It must be noted that I have filled 115 gigs of my 230 gig harddrive and I
can play Half Life 2 on highest possible specs without any slowdown.

Usb2 has become maybe 5 times slower than it should be too.

Thanks a million for your help

Michael

Take a look in the Task Manager at the running proccess, the ones using
more CPU and memory and do some research to see if they are legit or
could be a virus/trojan/spyware.

Michaeal, I am having a very similar problem. I just installed sp2 and
everything was fine. I then ran a virus scan and removed a couple of
viruses. After running the scan nothing works except IE. I can't even look
at my hard drive, I get the DrWatson error that you described.
Dan, I looked and my Task Manager and the only thing that is using any cpu
power is the "System Idle Process" Any more suggestions?
