I received an automatic update for XP regarding the Bagle Virus...

It said that if I received the update, I was most likely infected...

I'm stumped, here's why:

I did, unknowingly open a zip file from my boss about 6 months ago. I knew
I got something, and scanned/cleaned multiple ways.. (I use EZAV, which is
automatically updated hourly).

EZ removed everything...
Around that time, I even went one step further using other online
cleaners/utilities.(Symantec/Norton) .. nothing.

Two days ago, someone else at the office opened a file, and I (and everyone
else) was sent batches at a clip. Every email was deleted. Not one opened
(I was wiser this time).

To be save, another thorough scan came up empty.

What did XP see that the other AV programs did not??

How do I know if I've completely removed it?

Do you have the automatic update feature turned on in Windows XP? The
automatic update is enabled or disabled by performing the following steps;

To turn on automatic updates;
1) Open System in Control Panel.
2) On the Automatic Updates tab, click either of the first two settings.

Notes:

To open System; click Start>point to Settings>click Control Panel>and then
double-click System.

To turn off automatic updates for your computer, select Turn off automatic
updating; I want to update my computer manually.

If you choose not to use automatic updating, you can always install specific
updates from the Windows Update Web site. Open Windows Update in Help and
Support Center.

If this was an attachment in an email which stated it was from MS, then it
is not a legitimate patch/file from them. Authentic security bulletin
mailers never provide the patch itself or a link to the patch. Visit the
following site for a complete explanation.

If you didn't open any email attachments or visit any unknown site where you
downloaded and installed any files, then you most likely have not been
infected with a virus.

Run an on-line scan, as you did before, just to verify there are no known
infections on your system.

thank you....

Automatic updates has been set up.

The update wasn't an email (we know about those!), it was on the task
manager tool bar as well as 'Windows Update'...

I had a problem once before.. maybe there's a chance something was left
behind???

All has scanned well...

Odd...
