HELP! WORD HELP!

I recently installed xp on my computer, replacing nt, and
ever since neither word nor excel is working. in fact,
all that is left on my computer is the shortcuts for
each. what happened? how do i get them back? I am on
deadline for several projects, and cannot open either my
excel or word files, nor can i create new ones. any
suggestions?
 
Re-install them?

but i am a noephyte... a friend of mine installed xp for
me, and NT was already on the computer when i bought it
used. so i have no original software. the friend is in
florida, i am in california. how can i reinstall without
the software?

Then you did the wrong kind of install. You did a new install and not an
upgrade install. Your programs are gone.
