Hello,

I am on Word 2003 version. I created a half page post
card via "label" route. I have put in 1 black and white
sketch graphic and the rest are text boxes with a yahoo
map for direction.

When I sent the file, it says the file was 1030k? How can
I make this post card smaller for faster download? Should
I get rid of the map? Help!

How did you insert the map? If you copied and pasted, that is probably the
problem. Click the map, press CTRL-X to cut it off, open Microsoft Photo
Editor, click "Edit", "Paste as new image". Click "File", "Save as" and
save it as a JPG in a known folder location. Return to Word, click
"Insert", "Picture", "From file" and browse to and select your image.
Re-save your file and check out the file size.

There is also the possibility that you have "Allow fast saves" turned on.
Click "Tools", "Options", click the "Save" TAB and uncheck "Allow fast
saves". Resave your document and check out the file size.

Dear Bill,

Thank you for answering my question.
1. I inserted the map via Insert > Picture. I deleted
the map out and it's still large.

2. The "auto fast saves" was not checked.

3. I have taken off all of my Insert > Text boxes

Now all I have is the address on one side and the picture
on the other side and some word arts.

The final size is now 1000k. What did I do wrong?

Hopefully someone else will pipe in with the FAQ link that provides other
fixes, but I know of one or two others that might also help:

1. Click "File", "Properties", if the "Save Preview Picture" at the bottom
left is checked, uncheck it, close out and resave.

if this doesn't help...

2. Do a "File", "Save as" and give it a new name. See if that helped.

If neither works, I am sure someone else will pipe in with that link. I
looked high and low and couldn't find it, but I know it is there. Blind in
one eye and can't see out of the other!

This still results in the stuff being put in the word.
Can you not somehow have the jpg as a sep file and not
have it be in the word document..ie like a hyperlink, but
actually displayed as a picture in your word document,
but not stored in the word document. This would make the
file very small (and sending the jpg could be separate)
