I installed XP PRO, installed all the updates fine, but when I try to
install Service Pack1a, it downloads it and thn my comuter re-starts I get
the Windows XP PRO loading screen and then it turns off, and re-starts and
turns off and re-starts and will not let me even get into safe mode. I have
had to re-install Windows XP PRO three times. I would like to install
Service pack 1A in order to have all the updates and use USB2.0. Any ideas
before I try a fourth time?

I have the original XP PRO installed brand new with all the other hot fixes
which windows update suggested. everything updated fine but once I start
updating to SP1a or SP1 it downloads all the files, re-starts and there is
endless loop where it turns on and off after a few seconds of the CP PRO
screeen with the little blue bars runnnign across the screen. I have tried
with the original PCI videpo card and also with the AGP card, (all
combinations of the video cards on and off). I have a SOYO motherboard with
an Athelon XP3000 CPU. All works fine but i cannot install thew service pack
1 or 1A and therefore cannot use the USB2 support which is included with the
service pack. Any help?

I don't know if anything here will help, but here is an article about the
differences between the two sp's. Do you already have SP 1? installed?

Have you tried installing SP1 or 1A before all the other hot fixes and
then going to windows update?

I think Ricky is on to something, it seems that many of the hot fixes are specifically for SP1, meaning, they are there as an update support once you have SP 1 installed. They are hot fixes for SP1, and therfore cannot be applied PRIOR to installing SP1..if that makes any sense. Try removing all your hot fixes, from the Add/Remove programs.. then install the SP1, then go to the MS update site for any critical updates.
