My system crashed and wouldn't boot so I booted the system
installation CD and tried to repair the existing installation. (I did
not use the repair console.)
The repair operation went fine until it needed to reboot and now
I get an error message saying isass.exe is reporting that the current
value for the password is incorrect. However, it hasn't asked for
a password.
What do I do now?
TIA

Press Enter ?

Nope. It seems to accept no keyboard or mouse input.
The error msg displays for a few seconds and then it
starts the boot process from the begining all over again.
If I do nothing it would just cycle endlessly like this.

Do you mean you see a message similar to this:

System error lsass.exe:
When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the
value provided as the current password is not correct.

Then XP restarts?
