Help with Word?

I know I'm probably asking in the wrong place, but I am
desperate. When working in Word, I can remove the white
edge that some graphics have around them. I then try to
copy and paste that new picture into another program that
I use, Printmaster. The picture is now covered with a
gray box. What am I doing wrong?

I think it is Word 2003. It came with the Office Suite

installation that I did a few weeks ago. Before I had
Word that came with my Windows XP and I think it might
have been Word 2002. I could do what I want with that
word, but not with the new word.
