Word Help with Word!

Hi new to the site and completely computer illiterate. I use Windows Vista which up until now has been great, however now I cannot open any of the word documents I have saved, it opens up the file but none of the text appears and when I close it just states there has been a problem will close and give a solution but there is never a solution any ideas? In laymans terms please.
 
Does the error message give any more details, or an error code? Also, which version of MS Office are you using?

Try loading Word in safe mode by running "winword.exe /a" (without the quotation marks) from the run box (press the windows key + R on the keyboard to access this). See if you can then open files without them crashing, as this will help diagnose the problem :)
 
Word Problem

Thanks for responding I am using version 2007 and when I open in safe mode I can open the documents. Word does not give any other error message it simply says that it has stopped working its checks for a solution tries to recover the information and then says that word has stopped working!
 
OK, that's good news that it works in safe mode - so at least you can access them for now. Do you have any plugins installed?

It might be worth doing a "repair" install to see if that helps. Here's a page that shows you how to do this for Word:

Thanks Ian....I've been having the same problem as Fouroaksred..Did as you said and did a Repair install and all has been good for the last few days..A comment to ad for Hollydolly...As far as I can remeber when installing 2007 Ofice, you have to register it within 30 days, After that Office won't open at all..But just sends you straight to a Registration screen..Funny I should be abe to be exact on this, I do it everyday..lol
