I installed Word97 because it was the only way to easily paste text
and automatically keep the font and format of the pasted-to document.
Normally Word2000 keeps the font of the pasted-from document text,
unless you go through a lenghty process for each paste.

The problem is, after a month or so this no longer works and I am not
sure what, if any, settings or changed. I don't want to reinstall
everytime this happens, does anyone know what settings I should check
and possibly change back?

In either Word 97 or Word 2000, if you use Paste
Special/Unformatted Text, the text you paste will assume
the paragraph style of the paragraph you paste it into.
This would be the best method, I would think.

Not sure how much cutting and pasting you do, but have you tried using the
'paste special' option under the Edit menu.

With this, you can choose to paste as 'unformatted text' which takes means
it 'keeps the font and format of the pasted-to document'.

I also use Word97, however I am sure this functionality would be available
in other versions of office.

Cassandra

Word 97 CD is scratched, so I can't reinstall and need to know how do
I do this in Word 97 or Word 2000.

?? The example I gave works in Word97.
Look under the edit menu for a 'paste special' option.

That is what Word97 used to do by default (without using paste
special). I do a lot of pasting so thats why I want to know how to get
it (or Word2000) to do this by default.

Hi Nymphetamine

The paste functionality hasn't changed in Word since Word 97. What has
probably changed is the documents and/or templates into which you're
pasting.

For an explanation of what is going on, and how to get what you need,
see

Why does text change format when I copy it from one document to another?

Hope this helps.

I know, but you have to do it manually for each paste, which takes the
same amount of time as manually changing the font for each paste.

I want to find out how to make that the default option and do it
automatically.

Thanks, but that doesn't explain how to abandon text formatting of the
copied text by default. This is what Word97 does by default (when you
first install it) in any document, and Word2000 does not do in any
document.

I am trying to avoid having to buy another Office97 cd, just to get
Word97, just to be able to do this.

I don't see any setting for that,
but VBA is the dogs knackers, if you are on the techie side.
