NormanHeyen

I've got an odd one here. When I double click on an MP3 file, it
always asks what I would like to use to play the file. Pretty odd, I
select the WMP from the list, check the always use this program in the
future box and play the file. The next time I try to open another MP3
file, the same thing happens, I get asked which program to use.

In the file manager, the icon for the file is the WMP icon. When I go
to the folder opens, file types for MP3, it shows that WMP is the
program to use. But I always get asked which program to use. Very
weird.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Norman

Seeing noone else will answer you. I suspect the supported file types key has had MP3 removed.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\wmplayer.exe\SupportedTypes

When there is a list of supported file types you can only change if it's on the list, if no list at all there is no restriction.

However you seem to have other damage as well. Add mp3 to the list and see if you can then have the change take.

You should have posted the history of the shit you installed to mess with media files..

Check the file associations for WMP.

Open Windows Media Player | Tools | Options |
File Types tab | Click the Select All button |
Click Apply | Click OK

[[If you install other multimedia playback programs on your computer, they
may interfere with your Player file types settings. For more information
about setting file type ownership in other multimedia playback programs, see
the documentation that came with those programs. ]]

[[If you want to make another player the default player for a specific file
type, clear the check box for it in the File types list. ]]

[[If a selected check box is dimmed, Windows Media Player has only partial
ownership of the file type. Multiple file extensions are assigned to the
file type, but the Player only plays some of those extensions by default. To
give the Player full ownership of a file type, double-click the dimmed check
box. ]]

Start | Run | Paste this in the box and click OK...

Thanks David (and Wesley)I took a more direct course that I should
have taken before posting. I downloaded and reinstalled WMP. It was
probably some other player that took over the association, was then
removed, but I wasn't able to make the associated 're-stick'.

Thanks for your time,
Norman
