Help with Windows XP home network

The problem: When I ping computer A with Computer B I
get a successful result. When I ping computer B with
computer A I get a time out error. Both PC's wil get a
successful ping from the router.

The Setup: Two PC's running Windows XP. Ethernet cards
on each PC. SMC barricade router. Computer B is hooked
up to the internet via 56k modem.

I've tried switching out all the hardware and cables. I
even tried a different router and got the same problem.
I,ve run the networking troubleshooter with no success.
I had these PC's talking to each other for a short time
one night, but the next day the connection was gone.

I'm at the end of my wits with this problem...please help
before I have to do something drastic to these
computers ;)
