I have just loaded windows vista home premium. I am facing difficulty in
sending mail. When I try to send mail from my e-mail account to someone
having gmail account, I am able to send the e-mail. However, I get a
message that the e-mail was not sent. What is this?.

If the message leaves your Outbox, it has been sent. When you get an error
message and want help with it, we really need to have you copy/paste the
complete error message into a post asking your question. Without that info,
we're operating in the blind.

I am getting the following message
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'hi',
Account: 'nmma.sancharnet.in', Server: 'nmra.sancharnet.in', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '553 Authentication is required to send mail as
<[email protected]>', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553,
Error Number: 0x800CCC78

You need to go to Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Servers and at the
bottom check the box that says the server requires authentication.

I don't know what to suggest. You can ask your ISP if they have any
suggestions.

Windows Vista Mail', Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 5.5.1 Authentication Required
g30sm4037333ugd', Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 530, Error

Please help.

Note the error message: "Authentication Required." This tells you
exactly what is missing. Go to Tools, Accounts, select your
pop.gmail.com account, Properties, Servers, checkmark the box
near the bottom "My server requires authentication".

The SMTP server name is correct. I verified it here:
http://www.sancharnet.in/SWITCHOVER_24092002.htm

It looks like a loss of connectivity, or possibly a block by your
firewall or antivirus program.
