At what point did your attempt fail?
What error message did you receive?

I also use Shaw as my ISP. What errors are u getting?
also make sure that u have the in and out as: shawmail.ed.shawcable.net and
no check mark for the last two boxes on the bottom.

I am here looking for an answer as to why windows mail will not remember my
passowrd or account name. I have to enter them both in at a prompt, every
time i restart WM.

That problem is typically caused by a non-compatible antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or Norton
security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled.
Replace with a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:

If it still does not work after replacing your antivirus, let
us know.

According to
http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCa...dential/Email/UsingEmail/WindowsMailSetup.htm

your server should be "shawmail"

Change it as follows

Tools > Accounts > your email > Properties > Servers

Also make sure you are not using Norton or McAfee Antivirus.

Uninstall them if you are and use Avast which is free
but don't use the email scanning component.

Which, of course, is not a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).
That alias will work as long as they use Shaw's DNS servers, but according to
http://lms.academyoflearning.net/gatlin/Lounge/BulletinBoard/Discussion.asp?Topic_ID=374
it is better to use shawmail.vc.shawcable.net for the server name.

Also make sure you are not using Norton or McAfee Antivirus.

This is the more likely culprit.
