that still didn't open a expanded tree in the left pane.
when i open explorer, it open with all the drives listed in
the left pane with c drive highlighted, but not expanded,
and there is no + sign next to c drive. all the folders for
c drive are listed in the right pane.

I come across this issue the 2nd time, with no resolution (as far as i know)

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer Bars
Backup the keys - Export to a REG file.
Try deleting the{EFA24E64-B078-11D0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E} key.

If this does not help, you may try a System Restore rollback (if the problem is seen as of recent)

Right click Explorer.
Properties
Put this into the target
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:\
or just copy and paste everything after the "e" in .exe including the space

%windir%\EXPLORER.EXE /e,c: This also did not work
I have tried all the different strings that have been sent
so far. How ever I can add >%windir%\EXPLORER.EXE /e,c:my
Documents for example and it will open to my Documents
expanded in the left pane but I can not get just c drive to
expand

what i'm try to get is this in the left pane of windows
explorer Example: -C:\ local drive
+ Adobe
+ aim95
+ Program files
and so on for all the directories that I have on my had drive

Hi,

That is not normal. Even if you are using Simple View it should work.

%windir%\EXPLORER.EXE /e,c:

This news group may not support attachments. Do the following.
Change Target Box to: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.scf
Change Start in Box to: C:\windows
This will make your explorer shortcut open like win 98 used to.
