Hi everybody!

Maybe my question will be very simple... Anyway...

I have a SBS 2003 configured with VPN and remote access. When my
clients are connected (standard microsoft vpn client) they can access
the web only passing thru the server (in the sense that they use the
connection of the server executing SBS and not their local
connection).

Is there a way to let them access SBS VPN and, at the same time,
access the web using their local connection (example, if I use ADSL
from the client, I want to reach www.microsoft.com passing from the
adsl router and then the web, not arriving to the SBS server, passing
from the SBS server router and then...)?

I hope my question is clear.

Thanks for helping me!

Alex

Hi,

If your user dial the connection for connecting SBS VPN that means they are
connected to internet at that time
SO they can just open IE and browse the net
This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

It is basically a routing issue at the client. By default, a VPN client
will change its normal behavior and send everything to the VPN server.

You can prevent this by modifying the client's connection properties by
clearing the "use default gateway.." box in the Advanced TCP/IP settings.
See KB 254231 for more details of the client behavior.

Thank you Bill!

I was considering this way, but... What about security? Is it
dangerous to have a client using the local gateway (could be something
like an insecure "door" between internet and your private vpn)?

Only you can decide whether the convenience is worth the (slight, in my
opinion) risk. But it is the only way to do what you want. If
the clients keeps a link to the Internet while they are connected to your
network, there must be some remote chance of a leak.
