I just bought parts for a new computer, today i finished putting together,
now when I try to install Vista, it hangs at the 'loading files....' screen.
I've tried installing XP Pro too, and it gives me a STOP C0000221'Unknown
Hard Error' after it copies all the files, and tries to start the
installation.

If anyone could help me get my new computer going, that would be great.

You have some sort of hardware error. You need to test all the hardware
devices to make sure they're good. Make sure all the components have
drivers that support Vista. Don't overclock at first. Make sure your
power supply is good and adequate. Make sure you installed the
motherboard properly with all the standoffs in place. Make sure all
components are attached correctly.

If all hardware tests good, strip the system down to the motherboard,
video card, one hard drive, one DVD drive, standard keyboard/mouse
before trying to install.

Thanks for this, I've tried installing it with only the bare essentials it
needs, I'm running a memory test using the windows memory diagnostic tool,
I'll post the results when it finishes. I've tried a different hard drive,
and the install still freezes the computer.

Here's my specs if it will help.

CPU(s): 2x AMD Athlon 64 FX-74 Windsor 3.0GHz
RAM: 8GB G.Skill DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Video card: XFX 8600GTS 512MB
M/B: ASUS L1N64-SLI WS
Hard drive: one 500GB (SATA)

Remove all but 2GB of RAM while you are trying to install.

Ok, problem solved, I used 2GB of memory to install XP, when it finishes,
I'll upgrade to Vista.

Thanks for all your help.
