H. My understanding of drivers is somewhat limited. I bought a SATA
PCI adapter with 3 SATAs on it as my ASUS m2v-mx-se mainboard had only
two. The board looks a very like this.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VIA-6421-SATA...Components_InterfaceCards&hash=item2eb6319b3b
The small piece of paper that came with it said on the bottom Driver:\
\VIA Vt6421. But the mini CD that came with it was for Win95/98. I now
have Win7/64. Via.com gave me a link to select operating sytem
Microsoft Windows
Windows 7 64 bit
IDE Raid & SATA
Discrete Serial ATA RAID controlers VT6420, VT6421, VT6421a

As there are SATA connectors on my mainboard will this mess everything
up and will this driver conflict with other drivers (mainly the driver
for the on board SATA). Iam out of my depth here with drivers as I do
not know how they are called up or identified.

TIA

Desmond.

Try it without drivers first. If it is recognized and set up,
then some driver must have done that.

You could have a look here for advice.

"WINDOWS 7

VIA IDE, RAID and SATA drivers

The table below explains the support status of VIA IDE, SATA and RAID
support under Windows 7.

VT6420, VT6421, VT6421/A

Support for IDE, SATA and RAID are included in Windows 7.
No driver updates are currently available.

Installing the latest V-RAID driver will update the RAID
utility only and not the driver."
