Help with user groups (I think)

My PC had a problem and I had to take it for service. Apparently the repair
tech put on another user and it's totally different from my desktop and
files. I can't access my Outlook for one thing. I saw on here how to "take
ownership" of my old user group, but I don't know how to change the one being
used for the correct one. When I go to user groups, I can only see one, and
not the one the tech put on. I'm not sure I'm even right about this or if
that's the problem or how to describe exactly what's wrong. Does anyone
know what I'm talking about or how to help me?

Thank you in advance!

First, launch Windows Explorer and open this folder, C:\Documents and Settings.
Do you see a folder inside with the same name as your old user account? That's
where your old files are would be stored. See if you can access them. You may
have to take ownership.

If you can't find a folder on your computer with the same name as your old
account, it's a pretty good bet that the person who fixed your computer simply
wiped the hard drive and performed a clean installation of XP. You might want to
contact that person and ask them exactly what they did and whether they backed
up your old files.

As for what user accounts exist on the computer, right click My Computer and
select Manage from the menu. In Computer Management, click on Local Users and
Groups. Click on the Users folder. In the right hand pane you should see all the
active accounts on your computer.

As for Outlook, are you saying it isn't working? If it's working but not showing
your old email, contacts, and calendar, that could be another indication that
your old account no longer exists. Outlook uses .pst files to store information.
Go to Start -> Search and enter *.pst in the search box. Hopefully, you'll find
multiple version and one of them will be from your old account.

Good luck

Nepatsfan,
Thank you so much for replying to my post! I did take owneship of the user
account folder, but couldn't get my PC it to use that one. My Outlook pst
file was still there, but I just couldn't get to it. I ended up having to
take it back to the repair tech and he fixed it (I wasn't there and don't
know what he did). I won't be going back to him anytime in the future, but
at least it's all up and working now.

Anyway, I thought you might like to know the outcome and wanted to thank you
again for your help and suggestions.
