Hi
I have an old Toshiba lap. Satpro M10 with 40GB of basic volume. Bought it
secondhand with OS win. xp pro sp2. The HD was divided in
primary partition C 18.6 GB
Logical partition D 18.6 GB.
The primary partition is full although I use it for basic stuff such as
documents and no extra software has been installed. The Logical D drive I
never used it and so I deleted it. What I have now is free space which I
would like to add to primary partition. Is this possible? If not, can I reset
basic volume as 1? I don't have xp cd to format it. Is there any other way of
doing this?
Not a techwiz. Any help is appreciated
Regards

You will need a partition manager. Here's a free one that is very
good.

Hi Mike
Thank you for your time and help. I just went to the website that you
suggested. It tells me that the software works with OS 32bit. In the page it
indicates how to figure out your OS system but I tried and mine does not tell
me so. I have windows xp pro sp2. would that be 32b or 64?
Thank you again

You said it is "an old laptop" and my guess that since the hard drive
is so small as well that you are running 32-bit.

Give EASEUS a try.

Yes Mike you are right. Sorry to waste time here but unsure on how to go with
this prob. Thank you again for your prompt response. I'm downloading now.

Right click on the My Computer icon, then click on Properties.
If it's 64 bit it will say so.

Partition software to combine C: & D:
You will need a third party utility like Partition Magic, Acronis Disk
Director,
BootIt Next Gen (which has a free trial) or Super Fdisk (worth a look).

PartitionMagic 8.0
http://www.symantec.com/norton/partitionmagic

Using the Merge Partitions wizard in PartitionMagic 8.0
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...56e75007ca287?OpenDocument&seg=hm&lg=en&ct=us

Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/partitioning.html
"Merge two partitions into one and leave your data untouched, even if file
systems on the partitions are different"

BootIt: http://www.bootitng.com/
Acronis:

Partition Magic:

Super Fdisk Partition Utility:

Warning:
As always backup any important data files (documents, photos, music, etc.),
before using such a tool as there is always a small chance that something
can go wrong.

Better still backup (Image backup) your entire C: partition to an
external drive, a second internal drive or in a pinch use DVD media.
You can use Acronis True Image to do this as True Image 2009
has a 15 day trial version available.
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

(Acronis "Trial version" can create a Restore CD/Rescue Media,
"but I have not verified this yet". See the User's manual as you
will need to create this CD and use it should any problems occur)
