help with start/run/regedit

When I go to start run regedit I get the foolowing error.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS: 0dd5 IP :ffd3 OP :63 fa 65 10 64 Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application


Any help would be much appreciated. tia

Com files are executed in preference to exe files. The presense of a regedit.com will cause that to run instead of regedit.exe. Not that this is his problem. Regedit is in C:\windows and the path and default search will search system32 first, so it finds regedit.com first.

Regardless there is no need for a file like this.
