Help with spam- comments page

My comments page is being hit by automated spam.
I was looking for a solution...
I saw this idea of using characters you had to physically type in before you
could continue.

Can someone suggest where I can obtain the script or other alternative
solutions.

I've seen it (I think on Paypal.com) when you sign up or when you change a
password for example, they have a graphic, with a bunch of letters, with a
stripy or chequered background, and it then says "type the characters you
see into this text box" (or similar) so you have to manually type in the box
before the form will submit.

those auto-bots won't be able to determine what the graphic says, and if you
use a script to check for the *correct* sequence of characters, the spam-bot
won't beable to access that either, since you put the characters in first,
then it checks they are correct before sending the data.

neither will people who are blind and using a screen-reader.
