I have a rather short mp3 file which I'd like to use as audio
background.
When I loop it, however, there is a slight pause in the loop. I've
even edited the wav file to make sure there is no "silent space" at
either the beginning of end of the file, but I get the same hesitation
between loops. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Use a sound editor. Copy the sound 4 times. Save the 4-repeat version.
Insert this with loop.
The small pause (as the sound file is re-loaded) will be minimized to only
one in 4 repeats.

Another possibility (depending on sound card abilities) would be to play a
short non-invasive sound (train whistle, explosion, or fire whistle)
immediately before your sound file ends to "cover" the gap. Not all sound
cards can handle multiple sounds, so you would lose some portability.
