Alan

Here's what I have:
(1) desktop PC running XP
(1) laptop running XP
(1) wireless cable router

Both PCs currently connect to the Web via the wireless
router.

Here's what I want to do:
(1) Set up file and printer sharing (printer connected to
desktop)
(2) Keep each computer connecting to the Web via its own
wireless connection (I want to be able to surf with the
laptop when the desktop isn't on, for example)

How do I do this??? I've run the Wizard over and over,
am up to bridge 10. Either the PCs don't see each other,
or they see each other but aren't sharing files, or one
or both lose their Web connections.

I've run the Troubleshooter to no avail, and searched the
Web. Thanks in advance for your help.

try these is you have not already.
1. disable the XP firewall on both machines
2. makesure that both machines are members of the same workgroup
3. share your printer on the desktop and allow 'Everyone' to print
4. share a folder (could be empty) on your laptop and allow 'Everyone' to
just view it

hope this helps

Need to take this one step at a time. I assume you have the wireless
cards running dchp.

Do you get a network icon in the tray?

If so, double click on it.

Click support tab.

You should see an IP address and a default gateway. Main thing is that
both IP addresses should be different and depending upon the type of
router you have, they should be something like 192.168.1.101 & 102.

These are "internal addresses" not seen by the internet.

If you don't have this, then your router may not function as a
firewall/DHCP server.

If you do have this, then you have an internal network.

Go back to the general tab and select properties.

Make sure you have file & print sharing enabled on your server. If not,
you will have to add it.

If this helps good, otherwise, you may wish to post how far you have
gotten in these steps, since to know what is not working, we have to
know what >is< working.
