My Non PnP serial port was not working so I was told to unistall the non PnP
serial and when I reboot my computer it would auotmatically reinstall the
serial port. When I rebooted it never reinstalled it. I tried using the add
new hardware, but the serial port was not found.
I have a toshiba satellite laptop pre installed windows xp home edition.
How can I reinstall my serial port without doing a complete reinstall of
windows xp?
Any help offered is appreciated

Are you saying that you have a serial card installed?...which is hard
jumpered?

Its a communications port. Install one...then change the settings to
what you need.

Make sure you have it enabled in the BIOS.

Good luck.

Have a nice one...

I don't even see what was in BIOS and what hardware
diagnostics reported. Information posted here so that others
can provide something more than just wild speculation.

Only those who have minimal computer knowledge and don't
realize it would recommend a complete reinstall of windows xp
- especially for something this trivial. Your answer starts
by asking, "What should I be getting information and other
symptoms from?". Don't even try to ask how to fix it yet.
Its called "working smarter instead of harder". I don't even
see where information from Device Manager and Event (system)
log was provided. More important facts that are first
required.

You might try looking in the BIOS setup for your laptop to see if you
can enable the serial port. It may also be that your laptop has no
serial ports. Many new laptops do not come with serial ports however
you can easily add them by using a USB to RS232 serial adapter. They
are available for around $25.00 at any computer or office supply
store.
If you need a multi port add-on serial adapter that connects through a
USB port then you might try the following web page:
