I do weekly maintenance incl error correction/defrag. The disk scan on "C"
ended this time with WinXPSP2 telling me that Windows could not boot
properly and offering all the safe mode options, last normal config and
continue to boot to Windows normally which did not work. I went to event
viewer and I can't remember if the message was 57 or 59 but the
interpretation of the code from the M/Soft site was "The system failed to
flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur." My pc seems to
function fine other than it's somewhat slower then normal on bootup. Disk
maintenance utility indicated my "C" drive is "healthy". Disk failed in
April and is new. My videocard is new in November.
I did a lot of stuff last week, incl Windows updates, updated Avast, updated
Zone Alarm, updated Macromedia flash, updated all my malware incl Adaware,
Spybot and Spysweeper. So assuming the cause is software, I don't have very
many good ideas about how to correct the problem. I did some selective
startups, but "C" would still not scan for errors properly.
I also had a problem with an updated game which I hadn't run after getting
the new videocard and installing a new driver. I attempted to play it. It
rebooted my system and Windows told me it recovered from a serious error. So
the cause could be any number of things. I'd guess there's no simple
solution, but can someone help me get started?
PC has been relatively trouble free, but is 4yrs old and I have thought
about a fresh install of Windows, but if there's a software incompatibility
somewhere, that won't necessarily solve the problem would it? How big a deal
is it that error correction won't correct errors? Thanks.
