I had to reinstall XP since I was overcome with spyware,
maleware, etc. Now, my Roxio EZCD Creator won't start. I
keep getting a "cannot create CreatorAPI" error. I tried
unistalling and reinstalling the Roxio and have installed
all (seemingly relevant) XP updates. I reinstall from a
Roxio Basic EZCD that came with the new Dell. I also
installed the Roxio Basic updates from their webpage.
Have I lost Roxio? I kind of liked the program and hate
to rebuy it, especially if a premium version won't work
either.

If roxio is toast, any suggestions for other good
software?

Have you tried visiting Roxio's message boards and doing a search on API?
Sometimes the answers are there.

Roxio 5 Basic can survive

Since you already reinstalled your OS I will not ask you to backup up your profile, data etc... assuming this was done initially. However in order for Roxio Easy CD creator Basic 5(bright orange CD) to function you will need to install the OS clean once more, one requirement is the XP installation CD must be pre Service Pack2, if you have this CD then begin :

1. Install Clean OS
2. Install Roxio (open application after reboot, if you open before reboot you will encounter the same error/s)
3. Install critical updates and SP2 etc... application will continue to function properly.

Good Luck ..This worked for me it apparently is related to Servicepack2 and some other stuff that make my brain ache thinking about it!
