Recently, (and I have no idea how i did this?) i lost the
windows config.sys....so no boot up.

I had to reinstall and repair. Obviously, all my
programs and saved files are still there. However, i
would like to restore my computer to the way it was
before all this happened, but obviously the restore dates
are gone.

However, I know the old version is still there
somewhere. Is there a way to restore my computer to a
prior date without using system restore?

I would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered.
Thank you.

Hi Eileen,

Sounds like you did a new install instead of repairing the existing one. If
this is the case, you will not be able to do anything other than recover
data files from the old user profiles. Programs will need to be reinstalled.

If yours is a retail CD, you might try booting it. Start the installer (do
not go to the repair option). Hit F8 at the license screen, then see if it
detects the original installation. If it does, you should be able to select
the option to repair it. You will need your Product Key, so have it handy.
