Help with Reinstall of XP

V

I thought my hard drive was bad because at every bootup my PC would
attempt but couldn't complete disk check. I also found I could no
longer do a manual disk check or a defrag.

I ran some disk diagnostics I downloaded from Seagate (the hd mfr.)
The tests showed no problems with the 80 gig hd.

My PC is running very slow, and I think the next step is a "clean
install" of XP.

Can someoneplease advize the steps this entails.

How do you uninstall and reinstall XP. Does the hard drive have to be
formatted. What does this entail?

Thanks for your help on this dreaded project.

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary to
partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow Windows XP
to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP Home CD in the CD Drive and reboot your
computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the
existing
partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.
