oops, i posted this in the wrong place, should have been here i think, sorry

Hi, I don't know much about computers, but I had some more ram memory (i think that's what it is called!) installed by a professional and I had 512mb. But now my computer is messing up very bad, I keep getting those balloon messages saying I have about 4mb of disk space on the c drive, so i've deleted loads, about 800mb worth of programmes and loads of documents, i haven't installed anything else, but i am back down to 16mb on my hard drive. I can't even defrag my comp cos there isn't enough memory for it to perform. I've done virus scans, adware scans, spyware scans. I've cleaned the registry. And then just now I went in to the system thingy ma bob and it says i only have 256mb ram. What is going on?

Thanks

either place is good

if you could download the program below extract it and run 'CPUZ', go to the memory tab, at the top how much memory does it say you have ? also how big is your hard drive and how much space is on it ?

Edit: i suppose the link would be useful ;)

it says 256 mb. That's one of the things i can't understand, cos i definitely had 512 :-(

, when did you have the memory installed? and when did you notice that only 256MB was showing up? how much free space is there on your hard drive ?

The memory on my hard drive keeps changing, it first came up yesterday saying i only had 4mb and it was critically low and windows would find it hard to operate or something. So I cleaned up the temp files and deleted quite a few programmes and games, I deleted about 800mb of installed programmes, probably more, and a load of files too! It said I had resolved the problem then the memory started going down and down and down, I wasn't even using anything! Now it's back at 16 which is very low. I only noticed that some of the ram had gone yesterday evening when I was trying to sort out the hard drive memory. I only had it installed about 6 months ago.

also, I don't know if this matters or not but i had 'errorguard' installed on my computer and have since found out it was spyware. I think i've deleted it, but they're hard to get rid of aren't they?

go into my computer and right click on your hard drive then click properties, could you then post a screenshot of the properties if you need to host the picture somewhere use

errm I will if you tell me how to take a screenshot. I know it's something to do with a button at the top of the keyboard (i think!) but I don't know which one

hit the print screen button on the top row, then open paint and go to edit > paste, then save it and post it

ok thats useful, now open my computer then right click your Hard drive and go to propeties and do the same

no thats fine, you really need a bigger hard drive, take it to the guy that installed the RAM and get him to check the RAM problem and tell him while he's at it to you need a bigger priamary hard drive

before you take it to him make a note of all of the progrmas you'll need to put back on there and burn a copy of all of your important files onto a CD

ok thanks, i don't understand how ram and the hard drive work or anything, i shall take your advice. Thank you.
