I want to put together a portfolio in a single PP file of several
slides from various powerpoint projects I have worked on. These files
are all different in design, color, etc. -- they all different master
pages per project. Is there a way to copy slides from these
variously-designed project into one file and enable each slide to
retain its formatting, coloring, etc?

Thanks

This depends on your version of PowerPoint. If you have PowerPoint 2002
(PowerPoint XP) or later then it supports multiple masters and you can cut
and paste away. If you have a version prior to these, you will not be able
to retain the master formatting of the original (you can in 2000 until you
edit a slide, then you may lose the formatting).

Which version of PowerPoint are you using?

Your best bet might be to link the various slide shows, rather than
combine them. You could create a menu page with hyperlinks to other
slide shows. Highlight some text, choose Hyperlink from the Insert menu
and pick Other PowerPoint Presentation.

I have the exact same need / problem. I'm using Powerpoint 2000. As I paste perfectly formatted slides from various departments into one master presentation, the formatting is lost, even if I do not edit the slides. I would be happy if I could combine the various presentations, retain the original formatting and NEVER edit it again

How do I get the slides to paste properly in the first place and retain the formatting as long as I do not edit the files

Thanks

The formatting is taken over by the presentation that your formatting into. You
can retain formatting when you use later versions of PowerPoint. Here are some
work arounds for earlier versions
