Hi. I am wanting to connect to a Usenet newsgroup, but cannot find the NNTP
server for this particular newsgroup. It is rec.autos.driving . Where would
I find it?

Ask your ISP. They might provide a news server as part of your
contracted service with them. Ameritech doesn't provide an NNTP server?
How much do you pay? Do they discount their pricing because they don't
provide one? Since Ameritech is owned by SBC, does SBC provide an NNTP
server? Their web login page says, "Newsgroups: You won't have access
to the Ameritech.net news servers if you're not using an Ameritech.net
connection." so it would appear that they do provide an NNTP server and
you're already paying for it. So use theirs.

For microsoft.* groups, you can connect to Microsoft's news server at
msnews.microsoft.com.

In addition to the other replies, let me add that not all news servers
carry every group. If you get hooked up to your ISP's server and it's
ot there, you can request it.

_Vanguard_ has hit the nail on the head. Your headers show me:

NNTP-Posting-Host: adsl-68-78-100-83.dsl.emhril.ameritech.net 68.78.100.83

If you go to this site:

http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php?item=287

....you will find a list, just below the mail server settings, of the NNTP
servers available to SBC customers in the ameritech.net region. I expect
that you will find that group on the servers in the ameritech region; it
exists on "news.sf.sbcglobal.net" (I just checked), and the administrators
generally make sure that the same groups are available throughout the SBC
NNTP server farms.

If it is not there, subscribe to "sbcglobal.help.tech.newsgroups" on your
regional NNTP server and request that they add the group. In fact, subscribe
to a couple of the other groups in the "sbcglobal.help.tech" set. This group
only offers generic help for MSFT products; the "sbcglobal.help.tech" groups
offer more specific assistance for your ISP issues.
