Anyone help with this.....
...just got nice new additional hard drive..can't get it to go....what
happens when I attach it..Windows XP won't load....takes me to Set-up.
The new hard drive is a Western Digital SATA drive...exactly the same
size
and spec as the existing one that performs ok.
Motherboard is an ASUS A8N-E.
Not too clued up on Set-up..so not sure what if anything I need to change
or
add. its a Phoenix - Award if that makes a difference and it currently
shows:-
Primary IDE Master [HL-DT-ST DVDRAM]
Third SATA Master WDC WD3200JD-22K
Thanks John
John:
I assume from your description that you've installed the new WD SATA HDD
as a secondary HDD in your system, right? That your older WD SATA HDD is
your boot HDD and, of course, you're not experiencing any problems with
that boot drive. Do I have this right?
What I'm not clear about is your statement that "can't get it to go (the
new HDD, yes?)....what happens when I attach it..Windows XP won't
load....takes me to Set-up."
What "Set-up" are you talking about? The BIOS? Windows XP? When you say
"Windows XP won't load", you mean the system won't boot when both your
boot HDD and the new one (unpartitioned/unformatted) are connected. But no
problem with the boot when only the boot HDD is solely connected. Is that
right?
Assuming the latter is the situation...
Could you check your boot drive's connection to the motherboard's SATA
connector? Is it possible you have it connected to the SATA2 connector and
not the SATA1 connector? So that when you connected the second SATA HDD
you connected it to the SATA1 connector. If that *is* the case, that would
probably account for the problem you're experiencing, i.e., the system
won't boot - assuming I correctly understand what your problem is.
