I am about to put a new hard disk drive in my Dell notebook and then install
windows XP with an orginal COA disk . I donot have the disks for my dell
510m Inspiron so is what I am going to do correct>
I install the hard disk drive. Install the windows XP,then I have install 2
drivers ,
Dell Notebook System Software and Intel Mobile Chipset. I should then be
able to connect to the internet and then download other drivers, ( which are
the most important ones?) from the website. Is this the correct procedure and
any advice on what i should be careful with and need to do to insure a
correct installation?
Many Thanks

Be sure to own the Ethernet or modem driver before the rebuild. Hopefully
that is in the chipset drivers. I have done all you mention myself, and had
no trouble. Your video may need to run at lower rez till you update the
driver, likewise the sound, but that won't bother you any on getting drivers
for those. Restoring your 'recovery partition' might be another issue. It
depends on what kind of setup media you are talking about. The
technicalities of sysprep are usually beyond most people's learning curve
and actually, a good Backup will do that job pretty well. Best of luck.

Go to the Dell website before doing anything else.

Download ALL XP drivers for your model, and then save them to a CD..

Now do your drive swap and XP install. You can install the drivers from your
newly created driver CD..
