Hello: I have 2 computers (Laptop & Desktop) that both have networking
cards. So I bought a crossover cable and plugged it in to both machines, ran
the Network Setup Wizard and now the connection is working. The problem is I
can't see anything on the other machine - neither machine can see the other
although I have enabled sharing in some folders on both. I would like to be
able to share date between them and I can't figure out where I'm going
wrong. I'd also like to be able to use the dial-up internet connection on
the Desktop from the Laptop as well as share the printer connected to the
Desktop.
I've disabled the firewall on the LAN, changed the settings for blank
password access to the
connection but still no luck.
Any pointers, please?
thanks
brian

try this

set the ip address of the desktop to 192.168.1.9
set the ip for the laptop to 192.168.1.9

set the netmask to 255.255.255.

set the workgroup name on both to the same name i.e. "home" for the desktop and laptop workgroup nam

give each a different computer name i.e. "laptop" for the laptop and "desktop" for your deskto

now try to connect through the network places and browse your local workgroup name and you should see each other

Thanks for the info, but although on the desktop I can now see 'Laptop'
under the 'Home' network I still can't access the notebook - I get a message
saying that I don't have permission. The Laptop however can't see the
desktop at all. I've disabled and reenabled all the network protocols and
run the network setup wizard millions of times. Any more ideas, please?
thanks
