I am able to make a VPN connection to my win2003 server
from Win XP via L2TP/IPSec. I also want to be able to do
the same with my Windows Pocket PC 2003 (HP iPac), and
have installed the certificate from the server, but
cannot make a VPN connection. Actually I cannot even make
a PPTP connection. I am suspecting that the problem is in
my IAS Remote Access Policy, where I have the following
policy conditions: NAS-port-type: "virtual(VPN)" AND
Windows-Groups "Domain Computers; Domain Mobile Users."
I am trying to access with an account with administrative
rights. I also cannot fiqure out how to join the Pocket
PC to my domain and whether joining Pocket PC to a
Windows Domain is possible to begin with. Please help.

If the user you are connecting to a VPN Server is previleged to dial into
the server then you can dial in.

Your Pocket PC need not be part of domain.

It is enough if you have the certificates installed on it.

What is the error you are seeing here?

I'm having a similar problem with PocketPC. I make a PPTP
VPN connection but I can't get anywhere and I get
disconnected in less than two minutes. The event log says
the user was disconnected at the user's request but that's
not true. I'm connecting using a Wireless LAN interface.
How are you connecting the pocketPC?

Thank you for your reply. I was able to connect by PPTP.

I haven't been able to check L2TP connection because I
think I am having a problem with NAT.

Do you know if Pocket PC 2003 L2TP supports NAT-Traversal?

If so, then does Microsoft Wireless Access Point/Router
Basestation MN-700 really pass through all the necessary
ports? I wasn't able to make L2TP connection with my XP
either, although the computer has been able to make the
connection from any other internet access points so far.

Thank you for your help.

Hi I'm the one that started this thread, and I see a
similar behavior happening with my Pocket PC, i.e., it
disconnects from VPN even when I don't want it to. I'm
not sure but the reason may be that when the Pocket PC
tries to access resources outside of your private
network, it automatically disconnects from VPN and
switches back to the regular internet connection.

I don't really know, but if you connects to your VPN
server and just leave it as it is without doing anything,
I think it should stay connected. Only when you navigate
to some page or try to run some program the connection
gets dropped.

That's only my observation, and we would appreciate it
very much if somebody that knows the stuff could explain
these things in detail for us. (Right? TWhite?)
